Just went to change out the nestbox for Ollie's kits. I like to do that by the ninth day as they can start opening their eyes any day now. All five are fat and sassy and moving all about I am so happy!!! They have nice clean hay to run around on.
Had a little color change it appears one of the broken blues looks as though it's a blue point. Sometimes I am a little premature when it comes to guessing color. At least I'm not that bad when it comes to telling sex LOL!!!
As of this morning the five kits are doing just great with Ollie. Two breedings for the fuzzies did not take so I've bred everyone again and added some others just in case. I'll put pics up on the website later.
I heard today that fellow fuzzy breeder Sherry Callen had a fire and lost all her bunnies. I met Sherry at convention and being a new kid on the block she couldn't have been nicer.
I just want to her know we are all thinking good thoughts for her at this awful time.
Due to the fact that Topaz only had one kit that would make it I chose to give to Ollie to raise. Topaz just couldn't get it right we've lost all three peanuts already. Hopefully, she'll do better on her next litter, but one never knows. Ollie is doing just great with five and all are warm and well fed thank goodness!!
The fuzzies are still a no show so I'll give it one more day and rebreed.
This is the first year I've had any problems with breeding and raising kits. I'll just roll with the bunches and go on as I always do.
Yesterday we had two litters born. Our lilac otter doe first time mommy gave us four kits, but three are peanuts. Topaz is not the best of mom's made a nice nest, but did not pluck enough fur so my saved bag of it came to the rescue. As of this morning they are hanging in there, but in reality only one will make it. Not sure yet which is lilac or blue .
Ollie our broken blue had four kits two broken blue and looks like two solid blue. Really excited here as blue is one of my favorite colors!! She is doing a great job so we should be just fine with her kits. Wish I could say the same for the fuzzies nothing yet however.... I'll keep you updated.
The weather was just fab in Perry and the facility was wonderful! It was a great day for us too. In the American Fuzzy Lops we took BOB in both shows with a lovely tort buck. In the Hollands, Gidget once again was a star took Best Opposite and Best Variety. All in well it was a proud day for Ruby's Rabbits!!!
As always it was great to see old friends and just get rid of cabin fever from this winter. Just posting new pics of the show
on web page so check them out.
It's off to another show this weekend in Perry,GA. I'm trying to decide who to take, but I'll know better tomorrow after I blow out all the Fuzzies. You think when you study them in their cages you would know, but when you get on the table it's a different story totally!!!
The Hollands are much easier because at the moment I only have two in great condition to show. Oh well that's the way it goes sometimes LOL. Hopefully by Nationals I'll have a bit more!
Today was a day to take some badly needed current pics at "The Ritz". I finally got everyone to kinda sit still and new pics are on the website. Just when you think you have the perfect pose they move oh well! I had to start gettng nestboxes ready as we have a few due next week hopefully!!! It's been a strange winter for us regarding litters.
Normally we never have a problem, but this winter we've had two breedings that did not take and a litter that were all born dead. We are very hopeful that the next group will be as successful as our earlier ones. One never knows though.
The upcoming week is prep for the Perry show and figuring out who should go that's always fun...
We are due for more snow tonight and tomorrow UGH!!!
Just when I think I can get the bunns outside for some running around old mother nature say no... I guess we will just have to run around in the playpen instead bummer!!
Today is a trip to Tractor Supply for supplies, just like to have extra cause once it snows even with a 4w drive the mountain roads aren't any fun. The bunns and I will be glad when this winter is over for sure!!!
This the weather is really nice for a change so I decided to do an early Spring cleanup. All the cages got steamed and scrubbed and the bunns had some outside time. I usually clean out their cages every three days anyway, but decided to go a little further today.
Now "The Ritz" is sparkling and being able to leave the door open all day gives a wonderful breath of fresh air! Time to get ready for the big game so I'm off.
May your team win!!!!
I have gotten soo many congrats from other breeders since the Triple Crown. It is so nice to be part of the rabbit world I think it's very special. The people you meet become part of your lives as good friends, mentors,etc... I really don't know that many hobbies for which you could say the same.
If you aren't truly involved yet, do think about it you won't regret a minute I can promise you that!
Gotta go groom the fuzzies and since it's another nice day it's outside play
